I have had a Tumblr account for so long that I guess it doesn't feel new to me, but I can see why it might. They definitely do move pretty fast though.

Yes, I suppose if you've had an account somewhere, you get used to it. I think people have had DW accounts for decades haven't they?

It was only created in the late 2000s and was based off Livejournal's code, which was around longer, though I'm not sure by how much. I got mine in 2009 as a backup to LJ but now I use it primarily.

You gotta know what works for you and it's good that this does. :)

Yes hopefully I won't put my foot in it on DW and get ostracised. I didn't get on with Twitter and Facebook etc because somehow I was always writing the wrong thing and offending people there.

True, when you put it like that, it is actually a long time. If you include people who had Livejournals, it is close to or even more than 20 years on these journaling type sites.

Since there's less people, I don't think there is that kind of drama, not really, at least from what I've seen. And there's much less eyes on whatever you post too, unlike Twitter where strangers are more likely to see your stuff without following. Most likely people will just unfriend and move on if you really upset them.

I've been slow to realise that journal type sites are better for meeting nice people and avoiding drama, although I suppose I didn't know about them til recently. I thought all social media was the Twitter type ones.

I think Twitter and co were alright til the invasion of the bots and trolls. The times I used to write something totally innocuous on there like:

My favourite pudding is apple crumble.

And some random person would reply:

Can't believe you didn't mention peach melba, tiramisu, sticky toffee pudding. What a weirdo you are to only like apple crumble.

So I soon got fed up with that sort of thing 🤣

It does depend when you got involved in social media. The fact that it has slowed down as a preferred platform definitely is the main reason that there isn't much drama. Back when LJ and forums were the primary place for fandom and more active, it definitely had its fair share.

The bots are its own problems, but Twitter definitely attracts its share of trolls and then there are just others who want to get angry for no reason. That's why the block/mute features exist.

I'm relieved I avoided the drama then 😅

Yes, I'm glad I left Twitter and those others. Constantly angry people are very boring and tiring, I like interesting discussions, musing about stories, films, the meaning of life etc. Can’t be bothered with arguments, life’s too short isn’t it.

The amount of activity and comms was great and sometimes I miss that, but every site has its ups and downs.

True, it's just a waste of time and it's practically impossible to change someone's mind over the internet.

I've trained myself not to miss lots of activity and comments, it's been difficult but I think it helped me to have a more calm life.
